According to Madeleine L’Engle, “A Namer has to know who people are, and who they are meant to be.” In her stories the act of naming people is a way of loving them and helping them become the people they are meant to be.

Recently, I attended a spring choir concert at a nearby school. It was lovely. The students were well-prepared, they were wearing dresses and tuxedos, their voices blended well, and cut-offs were great. But as an audience member I felt something that I have not felt for a long time...

The fact that I've spent the last decade helping build this school and teaching these texts and believing with my whole self that this work matters, that's a story. I think it's actually the most honest case I can make for what we're doing here, and why your child being in one of our classrooms this year is a real and important thing. 

As a math teacher, it is a great temptation to spoon-feed my students strategies and information, but sometimes I rush too quickly to their aid and forget that travail is necessary for real and meaningful growth.

As I reflect on my family’s time here, I see how God has healed so many of my own wounds through the community of The Saint Constantine School.

Adapting a well-beloved classic is a daunting undertaking. With every decision to alter the familiar comes a slew of questions: Is this change merited? Does it help or hinder the story I want to tell? Is it true to the essence of the original story?

We cannot ignore our responsibilities. Neither can we let them overtake us. Rather, we need to tackle them and achieve them one step at a time.

Beekeeping is not just mystical, and it is not just hard work that ends in the reaping of sweet rewards. It’s backbreaking and heartbreaking care with a dark side.

Learning to walk takes time. It takes practice and courage. And it takes falling down. A lot.
